The Avatar State.
One of my favorite episodes is “The Southern Air Temple” from Book 1 because it gave the first real glimpse at the history of the avatar — Aang’s history. Even though it’s fairly simple, and they’ve barely scratched the surface of who the avatar is, it’s also one of the most beautiful episodes. I remember thinking this right when I saw the eyes of the avatar shrine in the Earth Kingdom light up, and then the Water Tribe, and then the Fire Nation shrine (?), when Aang enters the avatar state after seeing the remains of the Southern Air Temple.
Something about that confuses me though — Aang used the avatar state in the previous episode. Why didn’t the shrines/temples show any signs of Aang’s return THEN?
Was it because the avatar state was gut reaction the first time we see him go into it? (He would have drowned had he not entered the avatar state.)
Was it because when he saw what was left of the Southern Air Temple, he had a distinct emotional reaction and knew WHY he was going into the avatar state? (Not HOW he did it, but rather a vague idea of why it happened?)
Was it because he was in a sacred place — his former home? Was it because the room full of avatar statues was located ONLY in one place in the whole world — the Southern Air Temple — and that’s what made the other shrines indicate that he had returned?
This one is stumping me. Maybe I just missed something important. Hmm. It’s been a while since I’ve seen that one. Anyway.
I’m gonna go eat dinner. =D
Reasons we love Zuko.
Hopefully, if you’re reading this, you understand the importance of bringing out the fangirl in you every once in a while. I know, I know — it’s cliché to adore Zuko. But I don’t care! xD
*****
1. Zuko is conflicted. Don’t you just want to hug him?
2. Zuko is handsome. YES! Even in the first season, before he got tremendously good-looking, I thought he was … dare I say it? Hawt.
3. Zuko is scarred by his past. It’s tragic. T_T
4. All of us nearly peed our pants when we saw him in “The Beach.”
5. Zuko is a “bad boy,” so it’s easy to get carried away with ridiculous pairings and stick by them even though you KNOW there is no hope.
6. He’s so clueless sometimes. … A sea shell? (I would have taken it.)
7. Zuko truly believes that restoring his honor is important.
8. Even though he seems like he is constantly at odds with Iroh, we all know that Zuko needs his uncle more than anyone else in the world.
9. He is GREAT comic relief! =D Hahahaa.. Oh man.
10. None of his “relationships” tend to work out in the show. He ends up leaving one way or another, not necessarily because he wants to. Thing is — that just leaves more room for crazy Zuko shippers/fangirls. =)
11. All of Zuko’s hair-dos are pretty snazzy, eh?! Yeahhh, you know it!
12. Eventually you come to see his scar as being VERY VERY VERY attractive.
13. Wasn’t Zuko just the cutest little kid EVER?! x)
14. He did some good deeds, even in his not-so-obviously-good phase. (That’s how we always knew he wasn’t all bad. <3)
15. WE ALL KNOW HE LOVES THE GAANG.

If anyone’s interested, I made a couple AMVs about Zuko. ;D
Tribute to the Royal Family (“People Are Strange” by The Doors)
Zuko/Aang Tribute (“Face to Face” by Siouxsie and the Banshees)
That’s all for now. I’m sure there’ll be plenty of other Zuko posts in the future.
Rant on Linkin Park AMVs.
Alright, so. I make AMVs (animated/anime music videos) and post them on YouTube from time to time. They’re not particularly special, but I am proud of them for this reason: the music on them is not completely over-used or annoying or repetitive.
The artists I’ve used in my AMVs are:
Siouxsie and the Banshees (x2)
The Doors
Blind Guardian
Children of Bodom
Sublime
Catch 22
KMFDM
Nightwish
Bjork
The Distillers
My main bone to pick is with the Avatar fans who make AMVs to songs by Linkin Park. It’s hideously annoying going through entire pages of Linkin Park AMVs for Avatar — or for anything for that matter!
Will someone please explain to me why Linkin Park is such a popular choice for AMV-makers?! I don’t have too much against Linkin Park; I just don’t like them. Hah — I thought they were overplayed on the radio. YouTube is just as bad, apparently. When you search “linkin park avatar amv,” you get SO MANY. The first fifteen pages — I kid you not! — the first fifteen pages are filled with them! And half of them are to that song “In the End.”
Someone please explain to me what is so appealing about hundreds of videos that are essentially the SAME THING.
Why even make a video like that if you’re just going to be sucked into a crowd of other people that did almost the exact same thing?
Anyway, I think that’s all for now. I’m gonna go read or something.
… And not listen to Linkin Park.
